Wolverhampton delivers us this split from two bands sharing members and sporting names – Wrestling are up first. Actually..is wrestling a sport? Either way, they deliver one song which could be about my friend Richard, who can only grow a tache but no beard despite being pretty old – “25 On Saturday And I Still Can’t Grow A Beard”. It’s twiddly with shouty vocals to start with. It has a bit of a grooving middle section with some singalong, punky moments before a more emo ending with screamed vocals and a jangly guitar sound. Really good song. I really like the guitar sound, particularly on the less twiddly parts. On the other side we have Champions League. The Champions League – something I doubt my beloved Boro will ever participate in sadly enough. Still there is always the Championship and the never-ending suffering and decimation of hope for us while we float around a few echelons below the Champions League and any form of glory or ever even making the playoffs again. The band serve up a whopping five songs. They are all admittedly sub-60 seconds but it’s still an impressive number and might even give Little Ease a run for their money for most songs on one side of a 7inch record. They play a scatty and nervy form of punk rock that is lo-fi, messy, chaotic and raucous. One of the songs is 26 seconds and 2 lines long. Clearly they have no time for messing around. The last song is something of a theme song seeing at it is self-titled and brings a chaotic, shouty end to proceedings. Both bands are good and it’s a nice contrast of styles on either side.
