Sheesh, this is one helluvva fiery rock number and make no mistake! Imagine the gutsy rock howl of Soundgarden wedded to Handsome’s post-hardcore girth and then spritzed with a whiff of Hot Cross-esque widdle and you’re pretty much there, the result a barrelling, riff-heavy beast capable of scratching your deepest rawk itch. Amid the swagger n’ thrust there’s the odd shaggy, lion-headed roar to remind you of members’ metallic hardcore pedigree, but rather than dominate proceedings these elements are whupped back into submission by steroidal Led Zep riffing and truly molten guitar solos. If you chose to be finicky you could nitpick a flaw or two (the playfulness of closer ‘The Manimals’ jars slightly, and the record could definitely benefit from being a couple of songs longer…) but by and large it’s a bloody belter of a record that demands hours of ear time and that you indulge in the occasional guitar god strut when you think the rest of the world’s not looking. Superb!
