Tiny Engines are fairly prolific right now and this latest 7inch brings a bit of the new(ish) and old together. Dikembe are a band I have enjoyed previously. “Healer Of The Pride” is their one track here and it moves more to the indie rock side of their sound. The vocals are slightly less raspy than before and a bit more like Brand New this time. This track is nice and downbeat and fades away with a twinkly ending – pretty good. 12 years later and The Jazz June return with a new song. I won’t pretend to have followed their history too closely but I liked some of their songs before without ever being fully convinced. This song is mightily catchy though and is the kind of 90s-tinged indie rock I have plenty of time for. I’m even hearing a bit of a poppier Drop Nineteens in this one. Just one song here but it bodes well for their forthcoming album. It all amounts to a decent split record.
