Young Attenborough - Isolations - CD (2014)

Labels: self released
Review by: MH

I’ve had this one in my digital review pile for ages now – months and months probably. I kind of never got around to listening to it properly at first but a lot of these songs kept cropping up on my iPod when i was listening to on shuffle while out running or walking to work, and suggested I should give the whole album a go. I’d heard the band previously having reviewed the tape they sent in ages ago. I also saw them play live with Fellow Project in Whitechapel a few years back and they have definitely got better here. They play indie/pop punk and it’s kind of light and melodic, and while relatively clean it still retains a ragged charm at the same time. They have more in common soundwise with bands like Martha as opposed to any Fest-y pop punk and that for me is a good thing. A few of the songs stand out like “That Ain’t Bread (It’s Toast)” which I like for its line of “Don’t take it personally I just needed some time looking at fields and trees”, and also “Credit Where Credit’s Demanded” which drifts off with them all (or a few of them) singing “We can find something to settle our minds” – I think this might be my favourite track on here. My apologies for the ludicrous amount of time I took getting around to this review.
