Took me about 5 minutes to figure out what this 7″ was until I found that the details were printed on the back in black print on a purple background. The perils of working in low light. Anyway, it seems these are two songs that do not appear on Chris Tenz’ LP, which we also have been sent for review. On the basis of what we’ve got here, I might have to snap that up myself. Handily the 7″ has “45″ printed on it, and also “a” so I was able to work out where to start. “Pisco” is an ambient breeze for the most part although the man Tenz and Florence Fawcett tap (lol!) into some rather fine veins of folk. It kind of reminds me of Flying Saucer Attack or something, now there’s a band I always liked the idea of more than the execution but this works really well. Very bleak, very English, and it stutters to a sudden stop, either intentional, a pressing cock up or a fault of the shitty turntable I’m playing it on. On the other side is “Glimpses (Doubt)” which continues in the fashion. I am definitely fully backing this now, this sort of reminds me of when Fred Thomas really digs deep on his records. It’s full on fed up, vocals timidly hiding behind violin and guitar, mumbling, something or other. Ok yeah I am definitely going to spend some time with the LP, this is my sort of thing entirely.
