Numbers Are Futile make an excellent first impression with ‘The Great Chimera’. I love the opening guitar sound and the droning keyboard. Then the drums come in; it’s all fairly hypnotising. Good vocals too, with slight reverb. Not unlike Dredg. They change things up as the song progresses, but keep the fundamental rhythm going, mainly though the constant guitar riff that keeps playing until halfway through. Actually it fades out before reappearing. A few too many unnecessary sounds effects at the end but otherwise a beautiful song.
The first track is the pick of the bunch, and the rest of the album doesn’t hit me in the same way. But there’s no doubting this is a well put-together album from just two people.
