The Burnt Tapes are a four-piece punk band from London; they race through five tracks on this EP, each one sounding similar. The drum beat is steady but not spectacular, the crunching guitars the same. Dual vocals work well and they throw in a few wo oh oh ohs. The main vocals remind me of Ô°variste Galois – slightly hoarse but well delivered. Actually I should give the guitars and drums more credit as they step it up on ‘Kevin Sorbo’; recording the drums a little better and putting them higher in the mix could have made this a bit harder sounding and more of a beat – but maybe that’s not what they were going for. Overall there’s no feature that really stands out and it’s Joe Pesci, popping up in the last track to deliver some lines from Goodfellas, that sticks in my memory the most.
