I remember people talking about Erai on the Collective forum before Skynet took it down. And I agree, they show much promise. A combination of Wits End, Still Life and Policy of Three, but with a faster pace; if that hasn’t made you sit up with interest then I don’t know what will. There is another band that this sounds a lot like but I can’t for the life of me pin down who it is right now. Ah, they slow things down halfway through track two; I’m not convinced by the spoken part (I always find this sort of thng contrived these days) but the build up that follows, followed by the erupting finale, make up for it. ‘Mirror’ has a very experimental opening and feels like they are jamming rather than conjuring a song. It doesn’t fit with the record as a whole and seems like another band has sneaked onto it! I’ll pretend that didn’t just happen as ‘Karen’ resumes normality and is perhaps the highlight. Rough around the edges but they are trying things out which I give credit to. I was suspicious about the last song as they begin with a slow instrumental part that reminds me a little of the Twin Peaks theme music, before some singing comes in. But the build up is good and when it gets going it becomes an excellent track.
