Hailing from Chile rather than the endless cosmic void, Disembowel play solid if rather stock death/black metal. The sound is dirty and gummy but clear enough that the riffage remains clearly distinguishable, with gargles splashed muckily across tremolo-picked outrage and protean lollop alike while slithering solos snake tentacle-like toward your ankle. For a band steeped in Lovecraftian lore ‘Plagues And Ancient Rites’ doesn’t go out of its way to conjure much by way of atmosphere, largely contenting itself with senseless brutality rather than the looming, skin-prickling threat of something far, far worse.
