Allöchtöön hail from Ghent and feature a founding member of Shikari in their midst … something that’s only partially indicative of how the band sound, but worth mentioning nonetheless. Over the course of six tracks the band showcase a distinctive and diverse range of chops, from low-end rumbles to springy post-hardcore and on into twiddlier, tricksier guitar gambits. While many of the influences on display suggest a powerful love of all things 90s (I hear Deadguy, Will Haven, Botch and the occasional vocal line that reminds me of Jake Bannon shrieking “I cry high!”) the sound is forward-looking rather than mired in the past, and it’s this restless, inquisitive approach to their savagery that helps ensure Allöchtöön stand out.
