Electro Quarterstaff - Gretzky - CD (2006)

Labels: Willowtip
Review by: Kunal Nandi

Fook me, this band is brilliant. Not since the “Living In Truth”” album by Seattle’s Girth have I heard such an incredibly virtuoso melding of psycho experimental complexity and pure metal riffery. Canadians Electro Quarterstaff literally fill every split-second with musical invention but it’s not overwhelming and unlistenable. It’s actually enveloping drawing you in the constant momentum inexorably driving the band and listener forwards until the damn thing has to unfortunately end. Plus there’s the subtracted bonus of no vocals screwing it up. This is a completely vital technical instru-metal monsterpiece. File this alongside Crowpath Circle Of Dead Children and Watchmaker as yet another must-have Willowtip release.”
