Review by: Captain Fidanza

This is an altogether warmer and more accessible release from the artist known formerly as Runningonair, although it retains the murk and mystery his former incarnation was characterised by (at least in these pages).

The CD is still accompanied by a piece of paper full of dizzying references to prime numbers and “œthe 4 classical elements”, but the sounds on the disc are softer, rounder and generally more inviting than the jagged edges of former releases. The effect of this tonal shift is to conjure a more pleasant and pleasing atmosphere which nevertheless manages to create a mild anxiety in the listener, as they await the inevitable synthesised squawk or atonal screech; the fact neither materialise makes the listening experience a wondrous enjoyment to be puzzled over again and again.

Of course, this wouldn’t be a Joe Evans release without some form of mind-bending cryptology to scratch your head to, so I present the current conundrum, in the hope it might make at least one of your heads burst in absolute and utter bewilderment.
