Labels: Our Future
Review by: Oli Saunders
This is the second volume of this hardcore compilation, put out by Our Future, consisting of 17 hardcore bands around the world. The problem with compilations is that I feel they were from a time when you couldn’t just download or stream all the music you want. How often do you listen to compilations these days? Me… a handful of times a year at most. So I find the format redundant. You might find some bands on here you like that you didn’t know before, but you’d probably find that out from a first or second stream.
Anyway, it’s here, and I’m listening to it. Most of this is very experimental and noisy and I am trying out what kind of mood I would have to be in to actually connect with this in any way. Final Fukker’s ‘Emergency’ song is loads of feedback with some indecipherable vocals and a a riff you can just about make out. That’s an extreme but the rest fits in around it. It’s full of cliches; repeating a phrase like ‘this won’t end well’ as the chorus just doesn’t cut it anymore. It’s noisy, it’s basic, it says the same old message. Maybe I am being too critical but I’ll stick to the old wave.
