Pardon Us - s/t - 7

No-one will ever believe me now but I was thinking this sounded like a bit of punk rock with a Down and Outs slant to it and it turns out there’s someone from that band in Pardon Us. The same guy is/was also a member of The No Marks and Flamingo 50. That’s a fair pedigree and this is their 8th release on Bandcamp (including an Iron Chic cover) so they’ve been around for a little while now. It’s pretty anthemic pop punk with all 3 members giving it some on the vocals when required. Lyrically, I’m reminded of both The No Marks and Down and Outs – the opening line on the EP is “Sold! To the young man with no future” and there’s a resilience to the lyrics too. The related bands I’ve mentioned should be a good indicator as to whether or not this’ll be your cup of tea. I’ll pick out the breathless and flat-out “Flightless” as the stand-out tune here.
