Checked in with a few Noisem releases over the years, but I have to say that this is the first to have truly grabbed me. A fair bit of chat around ‘Cease To Exist’ seems to hinge on it being a grind release, but to me this is more like a rebooted take on the more feral side of 80s metal: Slayer, Sodom, early Sepultura and Possessed circa ‘Seven Churches’. Whichever way you cut it though it’s a snarling, sawtoothed cur of a thing: a whirlwind of merciless riffs that passes in an unkind blur and yet somehow has the power to make three-minute closer ‘Ode To Absolution’ seem epic.
