I must admit I was half enjoying this and then the third song came on ‘Subeme El Monitor’ which sounded like a 31G band playing 2 step or dancehall, but really noisy with some sort of Mariachi horns on top of it and blew my mind, a really fucking fantastic song. Then it just segueways into some almost Jazzy soul with pitched up vocals mixed with IDM.
Of course it was at this point I realised I’d been listening to the record at 45rpm instead of 33. So I had to go back and listen again, still good. Maybe not as mental sounding, and i think I prefer it at 45, but still good.
The drummer is fucking great, and the record is one of the most enjoyable things I’ve listened to in ages, dreadfully pretentious of course, but enjoyably pretentious. In between all the dancey stuff, there are moments of standard (in the loosest sense of the word of course) noise rock. Oh and of course each side of the record has that endless looping thing that they can do with records, which I like a lot.
All in all this a great record, thoroughly enjoyable.
