Ugly, tough, mean-spirited hardcore from people who know their punk rock history but don’t want to ape one set sound, style or epoch. Tongue-chewing vocals suggest Springa or Joe Denunzio but the music is lean and rangy, played at pace while retaining an unnerving jangle and unafraid of scraping off into uncomfortable, unforeseen places. Occasionally things hang back a little – the closing gnash of the opening track for instance, or the bass-led lurk of the standout ‘Worm In The Ground’ – but that certainly doesn’t mean they let up, and every moment bristles with sour, negative energy.
As opening volleys go it’s pretty great, and since the first batch of tapes sold out sharpish you shouldn’t snooze on this second run from the ever-great Donor Records.
