Young Widows - Bonnie 'Prince' Billy - split - 7

This is the first in a series of 4 splits from Young Widows. Each split features a B-side from another band as you’d assume. Collect 4 of the splits and you can put the covers together to form a great big colourful skull! Yay! Pretty neat. First up is Young Widows with “˜King of the Back-Burner’ and it’s actually pretty good. Quite angular and seated perfectly at the sparse end of the math spectrum. The lyrics confound me though. The vocalist witters on about a horses mouth or something. Bizarre. Good song though. The B-side of this split is “˜Poor Shelter’ by Bonnie “˜Prince’ Billy. It’s a pretty odd pairing of bands and I don’t usually enjoy this chap but it’s not a bad song by anyone’s standards. Nice acoustic guitarage with lots of “˜la’s’ over the top. It’s a bit sad-face but nevertheless an enjoyable track. This is worth checking out if you’ve ever feigned an interest in either of these artists.
