Another pint-sized Extortion offering from RSR, this one featuring two tracks – so I’ve read – from the ‘Sick’ sessions. First up is troubled instrumental pounder ‘Coma’ which looms portentously but doesn’t really go anywhere. It could’ve been something fairly special, but gets cut off at the knees without really fulfilling its glowering promise. Shame, because I could see it pounding away for an unhealthy five minutes and/or exploding into something truly monstrous. Flip the lil tiddlywink over and you get ‘Decompose’, a rapid-fire blast of Extortion’s by-now familiar hardcore fury. As ever, the same old comparisons – No Comment, Infest, DRI, Siege – hold true and this is as hate-filled a ditty as you’d expect, with the band getting extra kudos for the rumbling bass run mid-way through that chops things up nicely and adds another layer of intrigue despite the song’s brief duration.
