Slingshot Dakota - Break - LP (2016)

Labels: Topshelf Records
Review by: MH

I’m presuming the album title is referring to their absence of late. It feels like a while since we’ve heard from Slingshot Dakota and Bandcamp suggests their last LP, “Dark Hearts”, was back in late 2012.

This is a band that is pretty recognisable from the first few seconds of any of their songs and I still don’t think they sound that similar to anyone else. However, this record feels a little fuller than the last one and perhaps a little less introspective. Maybe it’s the production. Don’t get me wrong, songs like “Stay” still have that sad and introspective side to them so there’s still a very Slingshot Dakota sound to the whole thing but there’s a bit more fight to this record than on “Dark Hearts”. Anyway, I liked the sadness of that record and I like this one too. Also, the song “Too Much” is acoustic and a bit of a heartbreaker. It’s a welcome return for me.
