Punk musicians often manage to make interesting music when crossing into more conventional genres (Shores and Life Detecting Coffins jump immediately to mind… there are lots more). It is not always good, of course, but when it is it tends to be a keeper. Rememberables make a pretty damn good claim here. The blurb on their Bandcamp says that they are ‘reminiscent of Superchunk, Weezer, & Dinosaur Jr.’ but that is too generic a frame of reference and I want to do them more justice. There is so much going on here I can’t keep up as I try to make comparisons. In places the riffs are absolutely magnificent. The wandering guitar on ‘If You Should’ is a clear standout, alongside a general crunching sound and catchy chorus. The vocals are fairly deep in tone, though I’m struggling for a comparison here. ‘Ready To Run’ is the catchiest of the lot, before they slow down on ‘Toledo’. Not hitting top heights, the band nevertheless create a fascinating and enjoyable record here. I imagine this sounds great live too, so keep an eye out for their tour in the new year.
