I’m always impressed when a band can hammer away at a well-worn style and still come up with something compelling and distinctive. Dead Witches cast such a spell with their sophomore LP, working with familiar ingredients but crafting a mighty fine slab of fuzz-blasted doom in the vein of Electric Wizard, Ramesses and Huata. While much can be attributed to Soozi Chameleone’s brilliantly ragged, haunted rasp, the rest of the band also tap into something strange and numinous, transforming traipsing rhythms and deceptively simple riffs into mind-fogging journeys into the occult. Â
