Loved Frisk’s previous releases, so genuinely chuffed to see them turn up on a label like Iron Lung – a perfect fit for sure. Seems like they have been trailing this LP for a while, but the wait has been more than worth it: a bleak, savage, gnashing form of hardcore that maintains the genre’s throat-punching directness while malevolently twisting the edges out of shape. The endless scrape and blank-eyed forward motion speak to the crueller end of noise-rock while the frenzied, frazzled aspect of their sound somehow takes them to the brink of psychedelia. The ugliness of sound is matched blow for blow by an ugliness of spirit, as evinced by closing track ‘Nothing Left That’s Worth Enduring’ – a bulldozer of a song whose title has to be a contender for the most relatable of 2022.
