Had this for a while, played it quite a bit, and yet still unsure what to make of it. Two tracks of atmospheric rock music that thump and lurk: stuff that’s gritty and grey and labour-intensive, and could feasibly soundtrack archive footage of factory machinery as it slowly groans to death. Both tracks seem to employ vocals, but there’s the sense that they could be sourced from elsewhere and used for ambience rather than as a specific storytelling mechanism the band have wrought themselves. Depending on the moment I could compare things to Unwound, or Deftones, or Helmet, or Pelican, but the relatively brief running time means I can’t make a firm decision as to which of these influences might win out. I believe there’s an LP out now, and hearing it would likely help me make the call. I should probably listen to it. I think there’s a good chance I’d enjoy it a lot.
