Come Closer is mostly J Wang, who has had stints in Tiltwheel and Dan Padilla. Set any expectations that has given you at the door. Pretty Garbage has spun off magnifcently from that past, presenting a sublime blend of 90s indie rock and 70s power pop. An album that delivers song after catchy song. Everything is absolutely on point, whether it’s the repetitious strumming of “Arms Up” or the bouncy, hazy nostalgia of “Photograph”, recalling mid period Superchunk. Pick pretty much any song here, there’s no duds. Come Closer just keep you coming back. Or at least, keep me coming back. You can make your own mind up.

Sadly I don’t have the time to dig deep like I once did, trawling for hours to find those special records. So it’s a real pleasure when I stumble across something like this and get blown away. Certainly one of the best albums I’ve heard so far this year. And I suspect there won’t be many better either.
