Circle’s last offering, the strange Golem / Vesiliirto double LP, was more miss than hit; which for Circle is pretty bad. Forest, which predated the Golem / Vesiliirto LP by a matter of months was however a great psych-folk hard-rocker of a record.
This new 7″ on the now legendary Fonal records starts off sounding remarkably like the Sex Pistols, but much like other Circle experimentation they keep the riff and repeat it, thus pounding the listener with their pounding kraut rhythms. This piece is more along the lines of their particularly brutal Sunrise opus, that was all biker rock, synths and Near Dark vampires.
Much like the A-side, the flip-side seems to nick its riff, this time from the Kinks (although I was convinced it was a Beatles song for all of ten minutes). The track rocks on and on, melting the Kinks with MC5 and a Finnish Jesus Lizard. It’s, of course, awesome as pretty much every Circle record is and worthy of the £5.99 price tag.
