Here’s another band not endeared to the idea that being emo these days means you have to sound like an alt rock band and sing about complex relationship problems with girls. Instead they make a lot of dissonant noise with off-kilter time changes and all that other stuff which is inherent in the makeup of an emo hardcore band. Vocals are generally spoken or screamed and are way down in the mix for much of the time. Various bands that come to mind are Indian Summer, Moss Icon and Robert Tilton. My favourite of the 3 songs on here is the long and lilting “Did The Flash Catch It In Time” which fills up a side of record on 33 speed and towers up and over the other two. Very dark and moody in Indian Summer stylee, it broods threateningly in the corner, welling up, waiting to explode into an outpouring of power and yelling.

Can’t let an old skool emo record pass without mention of the packaging. You got a brown paper cover which I presume has a bunch of folds in it intentionally. And an insert with photos of the inside and outside of a piano, plus a steering wheel of an old broken down car. The final evidence that this band is more emo than you is the fact that instead of a listing band member names it simply says: “bass, guitar, and drums”. Get in with anonymity.

Wasn’t sure about this at first, but it grew. Worthy of your time if you like emo that makes you want to go and hide somewhere and be miserable, rather than sing-a-long and dance about with a big fat smile on your face.
