Goatsnake - Dog Days - CD (2000)

Labels: Southern Lord
Review by: Alex Deller

How many ways are there to describe this type of music? Dredging the memory-banks for something witty to say, but hey, listening to Earth has drained me of the will to be.

Doom rock. Detuned guitars, Peter Stahl’s soulful wails and a whole lotta Sabbath. One slow one, one mid-tempo rocker, a fast one (well for this band, we’re not talking about a grindcore album anytime soon.) the turgid ‘Raw Curtains’ instrumental which also appeared on their split with Burning Witch and a truly awesome rendition of Free’s ‘Heartbreaker.’ Not bad at all, but more a mere appetiser than a main course. Start with the full-length if you’re a novice would be my advice.
