Pocket Genius - s/t - CD (2001)

Labels: Boss Tuneage
Review by: Ian Cavell

If you in anyway familiar with the record releasing dynamo that Boss Tuneage has become, well, you’ll be on a safe bet with this release. Ex members of Porcelain Boys, playing that hyper poppy style of pop-punk that I can hazily remember the Porcelain Boys cranking out. Ideally, I would check the validity of this statement by giving that CD a spin but, alas, it is long gone, more likely than not gathering dust in a Cash Converter somewhere in Hampshire (alongside the rest of my CD collection).

But now I can listen to Pocket Genius instead which is a good thing. Eight songs in a similar vein to Samiam and ALL but owing more to that Minneapolis style of pop-punk that labels such as Boss Tuneage and Popkid just can’t seem to get enough of. From what I can remember the Porcelain Boys sounded better but I’d certainly give Pocket Genius the nod if you were in the mood for some pop-punk.
