Render Useless - s/t - 7

Labels: Slow To Burn
Review by: Nadia Almashoor

A recommendation from the staff at my favourite record store. “It’s good. You might like it.” My brain is going: “hrrm…good as in RAAA good or Farside good or gothic/keyboards good or ???” And yesterday since I had nothing better to do, I picked this up. And it wasn’t that bad. Bender Useless are from Canada. This 7″ was recorded either in 95 or 96. I maybe wrong as I’m totally clueless. They have a discography CD out as far as I know and that’s about it. Four songs here in the veins of Hot Water Music. Vocals. Melodic structures. Angry lyrics spouting “…better call a plumber water on the brain or call on council sister’s been raped by cocaine…” [- Track two: ‘Waterhead’] Hrm. Track four ‘Desperation Days’ does it for me. “Emo” and shorter than the other tracks. Sweet.
