The Shivering - Brand The Lions Mouth - 7

Labels: Ahoalton – Council – Into the Hurricane
Review by: Andy Malcolm

This band are so good at what they do, it’s a shame more people don’t know this. And here are two more high energy emotive hardcore blasts on this Council released 7″. First up is “Brand the Lions Mouth” with it’s urgent and driven guitars. Spencer’s vocals are yelled with a huge sense of passion, and musically it is more in the vein of something like Torches to Rome than their previous efforts, especially in the sound of the guitars. It’s pretty quickfire and over almost too soon. I love the b-side, “Coda Q”, which also has a very Mike Kirsch feel to it. One of the other members of the band joins in for vocals on this to great effect. It starts off with a big thick groove that pours things on. As the song develops it grows into a repetitious tune with a fantastic melodic groove and it latches on – the extra vocals really come to the fore hear as it descends into a tumultuous emo finale with yelled and cried vocals tangling together. Sway back and forth to this.

These guys are such a consistently good band. More stuff out soon too.
