Awwww yeah, the last time a bunch of white people made some good old funk must have about 8 years ago, if like me you’re considering Pigeonhed’s “The Full Sentence” LP and ignoring everything else. Volumen come along with their new-wave tendencies and Blood Brothers-esque vocals, and instead of being bullock-twistingly excruciating, it’s immensely good fun, and most importantly of all, FUNKY! If Volumen wore matching outfits (which I think they do) I’d gladly have them play my wedding. There is no higher accolade. They have also toured Latvia. NFSR aren’t a full band like Volumen are, concentrating on slightly drier studio-bound knob-twiddling antics, but their track is equally funky and equally aware of its own silliness, which perhaps makes them the Har-Mar Superstar it’s OK to like (if that concept is not as mind-bendingly improbable as it may seem). If you like red vinyl, you’re also in luck.
