Zu - Observing Armies In The Battlefields - 7

In a word – skronky. The long-running (2 decades and counting) Italian band do a churning, instrumental sort of noise rock that ticks all the boxes. Each song on this completely beautiful picture disc basically begins as a bass-and-drums rhythmic freakout, locked down and totally driving, before some sax, decks and effects come swooping in and cause everything to go critical mass. Just as it’s all about to meltdown in on itself, the rhythm section kick in with what they were doing before and bring the whole thing home. Feel free to namedrop Naked City and all that jazz, but at the end of the day, this plain rocks. Super stuff, and like I said, it at least looks beautiful.
