Despite Buried At Sea disbanding a number of years ago, Neurot still saw fit to release this, so you know it must be good. The Chicago band’s previous album “Migration” was a fine addition to the post-Neurosis (rather than post-Isis) canon, but “Ghost” takes a different tack, consisting as it does of a single song, phasing between a series of sections over the course of 30 minutes. Instead of being a novelty, it flows beautifully, with a masterful handle on atmosphere. It doesn’t get voluminous all the time, but when it does, it really does crush all in its wake. File alongside Blutch and Unearthly Trance as one of those terminally underrated bands that meld doom to hardcore and create something addictively amazing from it.
