Jettatura - Blood Wolves - LP (2008)

Labels: Tadpole
Review by: Kunal Nandi

A departure for Tadpole to say the least! I’ll leave the discussion of the links between the punk and noise scenes for someone more qualified, but it’s clearly in full effect here. Jettatura are a Brighton-based band specialising in the abuse of found sounds via charity shop bargain-bin tapes, manipulation of vocal chants transported from what seem like 50’s sci-fi movies and clunking bass courtesy of someone from Burning Times, associates of Abandon Ship and a great band in their own right. The overall atmosphere is disorientating and creepy, layers of oppressive sound underpinned by that distorted bass rumble which provides the only melodic (barely) thread. Like many of the noise records I have, I can’t say I’ll be spinning it often, but if I’m having a party and want to bum everyone out until they’re compelled to leave, I’ll stick this on. Limited to a mere fifty, so act fast.
