The Urchin - Monikers - split - 7

Labels: salinas
Review by: Alex Deller

Monikers trundle through two tracks here, the first a snarling sub-minute belter, the second a tamer dose of familiarly gruff punk rawk. Solid enough, but rather a case of so far, so-so. Elsewhere, the ever-reliable Urchin make up for their split-sharing buddies’ relative lack of thrills with two hits of super speedy melodic punk that could almost be the product of Snuff’s Tokyo-dwelling, caffeine-hyped younger cousins. Each track is packed with ramshackle melodies, strained vocals and fleet-of-foot basslines, zapping by in a blaze of the simple, big-hearted joyousness we’ve all come to expect.
