Dead Mechancial - A Great Lie - 7

Labels: Sex Cells
Review by: Andy Malcolm

These guys, along with Get Bent, are the cream of the Yankee melodic punk crop at the moment for myself. The Dead Mechanical LP is a scorcher, and they’ve blasted back with more prime cuts on this single. They manage to stand out from a ridiculously crowded crowd by not having a gruff singer. So if you’re fed up of a some dude with a beard gruffing it up in your face, but kind of enjoy the steamrolling melodic punk rhythms that those kind of bands dispense, then you’d do well to check out Dead Mechanical. It’s easy to drop in the lazy Jawbreaker reference here (would you expect anything other than the easy, lazy reference from me? After 1336 reviews, what’re you gonna do?), but don’t let that deter you. Dead Mech have a lot more to offer than that. I enjoy the powerful surges of guitar, and I particularly enjoyed the immense “Sidewalks”, which fights the Get Bent song from their split with Jean Claude for the title of “Most awesome melodic punk song heard in ages”. It rolls along like an avalanche. A particularly melodic avalanche. LOVE IT! They even have some great ringing, Braid style guitar going on at times and I can’t argue with that. Superb.
