Lost Boy Found - One Voice Over The Airwaves - CD (2008)

Labels: P records
Review by: Graeme Cunningham

Dear Australia.
I was recently sent the Compact Audio Disk “one voice over the air waves” by Lost Boy Found to review for the collective webzine. I do not often get to hear Australian hardcore. In fact, I tend to avoid it. To be honest, I have a bad impression of you. You guys all seem waaay to into sports for my liking. Nothing good has ever come of sports, in my honest opinion. Also, I get the show “Australian Border Patrol” on my cable, and based on this, it seems you guys really hate anyone of Asian descent. That’s not cool. Not cool at all.

None the less. I’m quite happy to expand my horizons. After all, AC/DC are from down your way. There is hope… …But not much. We haven’t forgotten Silverchair.

Anyhow, this record pretty much nails everything I dislike about “punk” rock music in the current era. I think Strung Out probably have a lot to answer for here. At least, they’re one of the first bands I remember playing something akin to this, hybrid of fat-punk and bad metal bits. One minute its fast, then its all chuggy and they’re all shouting in unison. If they think they’re Biohazard, they’re sadly mistaken. They’re not even Pro-Pain.

There are melodic singy bit with lots of second octavey sounding guitar lines. These bits are particularly bad. In fact, the vocals as a whole are pretty abhorrent. They remind me of the Lost Profits or some other terrible band marketed at young men in guyliner. The lyrics are typically vague, references to burning things down, retribution, that sort of thing. Rebellious sentiment for those with not much to say?

You know what this record makes me think of? I swear I’m not making this up, but there’s a line in the Canterbury tales “I Trowe He were a Gelding or a Mare “, that’s what this record makes me think. No balls.

So Australia. My advice to you is to think long and hard before dispatching anymore “punk” of this calibre to the Northern Hemisphere. You will get a bad name for yourselves.
