No - Demo - Tape (2011)

Labels: self released
Review by: Joe Caithness

Like your hardcore punk rousing, melodic, anthemic and fist pumping? Then this isn’t for you. NO are a band from London with some guys in other bands playing in
them. This tape is 8 tracks long and starts by hitting you in the face with a spanner and
ends with hitting you in the face with a brick, and the middle hits you in the face with a
toaster. This is insular, paranoid, blown out, atonal hardcore punk. There is very little
melody, the hint of a riff is quickly cut off just before you can get your ears round it by
the sound of a steam train running it over. It breaks from the thrash briefly with early
80s Boston HC style stomp outs and walls of feedback. It’s pretty much exactly what a
hardcore band should sound like, no fucking about. I have no idea what the vocals are
about, because I can’t hear the words, but I’m presuming he’s upset about something.
They also win prizes for being the worlds second most un-google-able band, behind “A”.
