Noothgrush - Suppression - split - 5

Labels: Blow The Reactors – Fuck Yoga

This is the most modest Noothgrush excavation in recent times, presenting one song each from these two bands on a release that should have really seen the light of day back in 1998. We’ll deal with Suppression first, who, after after a minute of bleeps, whooshes and electronic tomfoolery blast your face off with a brief but scalding bout of powerviolence-inflected grind. Nice enough of course, but for me Noothgrush were always going to be the main attraction, and while it seems uncommonly cruel to confine them to one side of a 5″ record they truly make the most of it. ‘Flee From Hunger And Disease’ is typically great: socially-minded, sludged-out doom that grumbles, thumps and thunders like nobody’s business. Miracle of it is that despite just being a shade over two minutes long, they still manage to pack in a stack of killer riffs as if they were having a fire sale on the damn things. Brilliant and mandatory, then, despite its dwarfen stature.
