That Fucking Tank - TFT - CD (2012)

Labels: Gringo – Obscene Baby Auction
Review by: Alex Deller

More two-fella mathiness from a band who’ve been kicking around for quite some time now. Been a while since we last crossed paths, but I think this might be the strongest material I’ve heard yet. While the clicketty-clack rhythms and fiddly guitar moments that indicate a lasting fondness for Shellac, Fugazi and Sonic Youth are still intact there’s an added rockiness to the opener that suggests a real appreciation for the primal, repetitive thrusts of AC/DC or ZZ Top while ‘NWONWOBHM’ playfully incorporates the kind of influences you’d expect from the title and the closing track applies a calming salve with its Fahey-esque vibes. The standout track for me is probably ‘Acid Jam’, which recalls ‘Thunderstruck’ caught in a krautrock daydream but it’s all fun stuff if you fancy having your brain massaged whilst simultaneously spiked with needles.
