Rations - Martyrs and Prisoners - 7

Rations are a Long Island band I am aware of but I haven’t heard everything they’ve done. I’ve got a 7inch at home which has one particularly great song on it and melodic punk is their thing. This time they fit six gritty, noisy and shouty songs onto a new 7inch. They’re also pretty short but nicely structured blasts of noise and melody shunning the standard verse-chorus-verse structure and with plenty of slower, heftier moments. Opener “œLeaves Of Grass” is the only song that gets close to 3 minutes and it’s rough and melodic, bringing to mind early Jawbreaker. The last couple of songs are pretty strong and dark too and “œThe Profiteer” features female vocals from Tia from Fellow Project who also plays bass in this band. More than solid stuff and not hard to see why there have been 20-25 labels involved in making this available around the world. I also think the picture on the cover is great.
