I tend to spend most of my money and time at the moment on bands which sound either a bit like The Ramones or a bit like The Buzzcocks (or, more likely, fall somewhere between the two). There’s plenty of bands to choose from as well: MEAN JEANS, AVERAGE TIMES, SONIC AVENUES, MARVELOUS DARLINGS (although they’re not really around anymore), are all belting out buckets-loads of catchy, dirty, glam/power-pop/garage for me to binge on. So, when I heard a snippet of NIGHTMARE BOYZZZ on their Bandcamp page, I quickly baggsied their debut album, Bad Patterns, for review, confident that they would be my cup of tea. I wasn’t disappointed.
If you are familiar with any of the aforementioned bands, you know what to expect from Nightmare Boyzzz: a lo-fi guitar sound, some pounding drums and plenty of hooks. This album is proper catchy. Expect these songs to wriggle their way into your lugs and make a nest there. You won’t shift them and, to be fair, you won’t want to! And when your half hour’s done, just hit repeat and blast it again.
Cracking stuff, boyzzz. Nice one!
