Shake Your Halo Down - Signals - CD (2014)

New stuff by Shake Your Halo Down is always good news for me. It’s been about 6 months since “Honesty” came out and this new release sees Chris Charlton teaming up with members of Bad Owl, Laboratory Noise and The Unthanks who I haven’t actually heard of before but do a fine job in delivering 4 contrasting pop songs on this new CD. Opener “Stop Talking About The Weather” has more than a touch of Protectors about it which is probably not surprising considering Chris Charlton sings in that band too. It’s my favourite song on here. On the other tracks he mixes things up a bit. “Sometimes I don’t believe the words you say” introduces some male spoken word in a Scottish accent with the vocal reins getting handed over to one of the female vocalists he is collaborating with. Not quite sure who is doing what in terms of the guest collaborators by the way. The more experimental “Undercover” features boy/girl vocals and a more than a dose of electronica while the last track is an upbeat 7-minute dancy number with mellow vocals. Plenty of variation on this CD – a good chance you’ll find something you like.
