Ripcord - Fast 'N' Furious (The Complete Demos) - CD (2014)

Labels: Boss Tuneage – Break The Connection
Review by: Alex Deller

This right here is quite a bit of Ripcord. Quite a bloody bit. Almost too much to take in one sitting, in fact, especially if your attention span has been decimated by such things as the internet, 24-hour news, 18-minute albums and two-song 7″s. Ripcord, of course, were bloody legendary. Fast, frantic, no-holds-barred thrash from Weston-super-Mare. Like it says on the tin, this is all their demos. Things start with the primordial ‘In Search Of A Future’ recordings, which are a tad on the thin size and nod towards the band’s anarcho influences. Their inclusion also effectively devalues my copy of the Shortfuse edition which came out a few years ago, so thanks for that. From then on things get faster and more feral, a whirling blitz of snarls and raggedy hardcore bashings that tear from fast to faster with little concern for public safety or their own wellbeing. You get some tremendously raw flexi tracks and another stack of rough-as-shite demo recordings, all wrapped up with some entertaining (if squint-inducing!) liner notes that sum up the triumphs and travails of life as a blasting hardcore act back in the mid-to-late 80s. Cool!
