Kontaminat - s/t - 7

Labels: Lengua Armada
Review by: Alex Deller

Lengua Armada is one of those labels you can rely on to put out great music, and if I have the money to hand I’ll happily exchange it sight unseen for whatever they happen to release. Case in point: this one from Chicago punx Kontaminat, who were unknown to me until this velum-wrapped rager plopped through the post. They play top-notch hardcore, which in descriptive terms doesn’t really mean anything anymore given all the genre hair-splitting at play nowadays. Suffice it to say that they sound distinctly American (i.e. no Japan; no Sweden; no UK…) and the songs are both brilliantly constructed and barely in control. The vocals are burly, snaggly guitar parts pop up all over the shop and in place of lyrics you have an explanatory paragraph for each song which ensure you know that this is just as raging in sentiment as it is in sound.
