Flesh World - A Line In Wet Grass - 7

Labels: Iron Lung
Review by: Alex Deller

This is some lovely but slightly unerring stuff. Both songs possess a punkish urgency and intensity, but it’s all swaddled in sonorous vocals and a guitar sound that’s somehow crisp and blurred all at the same time “” as though first-few-albums Wire were fighting desperately to free themselves from a smothering patchwork blanket made entirely from old shoegaze t-shirts. Too awake and alert to be entirely ‘dreamlike’ and too self-possessed to tumble neatly into any one genre trap, it’s a standout release despite its two-track brevity and more than enough to make me want to grab the LP as soon as I possibly can.
