Carrion Spring - Sed Non Satiata - Split - LP (2015)

Labels: Adagio830 – Echo Canyon – Protagonist Records
Review by: Nerida

The Carrion Spring side; Starting the introduction to their half of this record with a sample from the film ‘Waking Life’, you can pretty much tell what’s coming next, the kind of emotional screamo/post hardcore that puts you in your special place. They’re a band with a great DIY ethos, not really looking for any kind of acclaim, and recording and producing all there own music, but this doesn’t sound like your typical DIY punk record, it’s intelligent and the music is skillful, accomplished, and vigorous. Not just punk for punks sake.

The Sed Non Satiata side is a completely different kettle of fish, from a very different band. Emotional French rock; with guitar riffs that have tinges of early U2 (honestly not always a bad thing), screaming powerful vocals, and well placed ‘deep’ samples, Sed Non Satiata are the kind of band that could be huge, they’ve toured extensively, and have been going (albeit with a number of lineup changes) well over a decade, I reckon they’ve been criminally overlooked, even by me.
