Lehnen - Reaching Over Ice And Waves - CD (2015)

Labels: Noise Appeal
Review by: Oli Saunders

Lehnen are in the realms of post-rock; they begin with a combination of ambience and an audio sample; it creates an interesting but melancholic atmosphere. They then launch into their first song and it’s slowish paced with the instruments connecting well. I’m struggling to describe the vocals; they remind me a little of Dredg and Identical Homes. There’s less catchiness though and ultimately I enjoy all the songs yet don’t find them clicking with me. The band are at home with instrumentals too and tracks 2 and 4 are highlights. The fifth song ‘Isolation’, is another moment of sad ambience and reminds me of an apocalyptic movie scene. Oh, and the last track is another good instrumental; the band just need to nail their sound a little more as there is much promise here.
