Braveyoung - Misery And Pride - Download (2017)

Have to admit that up until this point I only knew Braveyoung for their collaboration with The Body, but this is really quite impressive. Careful, elegiac and quietly moving, the seven ominously-titled instrumental pieces could easily soundtrack some tragic black and white arthouse film where much of the action involves clasped hands and people whispering wanly to each other in hospital rooms. Burbling ambient noise fills the terrible empty space between unhappy string swells, with lost piano or brass notes occasionally making an understated entrance. The atmosphere is one of quiet sorrow and reflection, loaded with a sense of loss that is either in the not-too-distant past or anticipated in the very near future.
